| Qingdao is a seaport city located at the southern tip of the Shandong Peninsula, and Shinan District is located in the south of Qingdao City, playing a leading role in politics, culture, business, finance, tourism and science. The district covers 30.1 square kilometers and is home to 505,800 residents. Transportation is very convenient with both Qingdao Railway Station and Qingdao Port located in this district, and the East-West Expressway passing through district center. Its airport can also be reached within 30 minutes. |

Tourism |
| Shinan is well-known for its tourist attractions. In the west of the district there are plenty of traditional and western colonial architectures as well as commands characteristics of coastal area while in the east area lies Qingdao City`s most advanced new business district. The district has more than 80% of Qingdao's tourist attractions including Zhan Qiao (Pier), Ba Da Guan(Eight Great Passes), and May Fourth Square, and the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games are to be held in this district.
As one of the major festivals, the district has held the Qingdao Ocean Festival since 1999 every July, which is the only festival of its kind in China, contributing to the development of the sea culture. During the festival, Shinan District promotes the city's major sea-related industries and technologies, as well as its sea culture. |
